Sing with us in La Traviata in August

This summer Fremont Opera presents Verdi’s beloved masterpiece, with a brilliant cast and the full Fremont Symphony.  La Traviata is set in the glittering salons of 19th-century Paris, and the chorus has a major role in two big, elegant party scenes. Chorus members play party guests, entertainers, and gamblers. There will be costumes, action, and thrilling music to sing.

Chorus Master: James Frieman, jimfrieman@aol.com

We still have openings in the Traviata chorus for altos, tenors, and basses. Interested singers should contact Barbara Sloss by email at bgsloss@fremontopera.org. Telephone messages may also be left at 650-508-9659

There will be two music rehearsals each week, beginning on June 5.
Staging rehearsals will begin on August 19.
Performances are on Friday, August 27 and Sunday, August 29.

Although most of the chorus will be volunteer, there will be a limited number of paid positions. Requirements for all chorus members are:

  • Ability to read choral music of average difficulty
  • Good physical health and stamina
  • Ability to learn and memorize music independently
  • Ability to move and be dramatically expressive
  • Availability for all rehearsals and performances

At all chorus auditions, singers must be prepared to sing a short selection in Italian from memory. Longer pieces should be edited to no more than three minutes. An accompanist will be provided.
